Season 2
Rules of Acquisition
In the midst of this muddle of an episode concerning Ferengi sexuality (or the lack thereof) hides the first encounter between an Alpha Quadrant race and the Dominion. Still unsure of their future relationship with the Dominion, the Federation ministers of propaganda had not yet abandoned themselves to uncensored criticism of the Dominion. The Dominion is mentioned only as a potential commerce partner for the Ferengi (not likely) and is merely described as the major power in the Gamma Quadrant.

The Jem'hadar
It's a family outing for Sisko, little Jake, Quark, and Rom's son, Nog, when the four head to the Gamma Quadrant for a camping trip. However, they are not long in the wilds of the Gamma Quadrant before, in typical fashion, they are captured and imprisoned by Jem'hadar. As this is their first encounter with the Dominion, the Jem'hadar's Vorta has herself imprisoned with Sisko and company, claiming that she too has been taken prisoner by the Jem'hadar. The Jem'hadar allow the party to escape and, with the assistance of the Vorta, return to DS9, but not before Starfleet, involved in an illfated rescue attempt, can suffer their first casualties at the hands of the Jem'hadar. Too late, the crew discover that the Vorta is a spy and are left in quiet awe of the Federation's newest foe.
