Jem'hadar

The Jem'hadar comprise the formidable military of the Dominion. They are warriors bred from birth for this task and granted both the intelligence and physical strength to dominate any opponent. This species was genetically engineered by the Founders to serve and protect the Dominion. Their sole purpose is the fulfillment of these duties and so, signifcantly, their motto is "Victory is life." Though the average lifespan of the Jem'hadar is relatively short due to the necessarily dangerous nature of their assignments, their brief years are lived out bravely and proudly. After the wormhole connecting the Alpha and Gamma Quadrants was sealed to Dominion traffic by Captain Sisko working in callusion with the ignominious "Prophets" of the Bajoran wormhole, the Dominion personnel remainign inthe Alpha Quadrant began breeding a new subspecies of Jem'hadr known as the "Alphas." This subspecies is generally considered to be heartier and more loyal to both the Vorta and Founders than the "Gamma" Jem'hadar. Although loyalty to their superiors within the Dominion hierarchy is deeply ingrained, this relationship is reinforced by the Jem'hadar's dependence on Ketracel White, a vital enzyme provided by the Vorta which the Jem'hadar are unable to produce on their own. Several years ago, a movement to abandon the Dominion shook the ranks of the Jem'hadar and took hold in some of the weaker of the species. However, this failing is believed to have been entirely eliminated in the Alphas.
