Capital City, Cardassia Prime-To the Cardassian people, still stunned by the few dramatic days which left great swaths of their homeworld in ruin, the Federation missionaries seem a blessing. These sanitized and sanctified workers have spread over the surface of the planet in only weeks, erasing the ruined, ancient cities of Cardassia and replacing them with sterile Federation standard shelters. Utterly incapacitated by the closing days of the Dominion occupation of Cardassia Prime, the Cardassians have eagerly accepted this assistance, quick to put behind them the days of their alliance with the Dominion which many now regard as ill omened.
.........However, beneath the clean, pre-fab surface of the assistance the Federation has graciously extended to Cardassia lurks a darker truth. In interviews obtained exclusively by Dateline Dominion, we have made contact with over a dozen Federation service corps workers wishing to unburden themselves of the distressing accounts and evidence of significant wrongdoing on the part of the Federation brought to their attention by Cardassian refugees. Their stories include descriptions of both the style of attack and subsequent pattern of destruction which indicate not razing by the Dominion but planetary bombardment was responsible for the destruction evident on Cardassia Prime. Federation service corps employees also describe treating wounds consistent with Starfleet issue phasers, not Dominion weapons.
.........Despite the extremely disturbing nature of this information, no evidence conclusively linking the Federation to the destruction on Cardassia Prime had been uncovered, until we obtained copies of the official letter of resignation presented to Starfleet Command by Captain Johannes Stocker. This decorated career officer, veteran of Starfleet conflicts with the Cardassians, Borg, and Klingons, resigned his Starfleet commission only seven hours after the Dominion’s withdrawal from Cardassia Prime. In his statement, suppressed until now by Starfleet Command, Stocker confesses his complicity in the Federation’s bombardment of Cardassia Prime. He describes a vast conspiracy within the Federation Alliance to defraud the people of both the Alpha and Gamma Quadrants into believing the Dominion had committed unthinkable atrocities against the Cardassian people in order to turn the tide of the war. In the final act of this deception, Stocker and nine other Starfleet captains used their ships to decimate the surface of Cardassia Prime in order to make way for the Federation reconstruction of that world and cement its allegiance to the Federation. For months, Stocker and his story have been silence by the Federation but, following an extensive top down review conducted by the Federation Council, the truth has at last been revealed.
.........In the face of these extraordinary new facts, we are forced to reevaluate all that we have formerly believed regarding both the Federation Alliance and the Alpha Quadrant War. The release of this volatile information to the Cardassian people will surely mean the end of the Federation presence on this world. It may also signal the beginning of an extensive reconstruction of the Federation itself. As this news follows on the heels of the revelations that elements within the Federation engineered a virus designed to bring about the genocide of the Founders, all members of the Federation must question the extent to which this organization still hues to the ideals on which it was founded. Stocker’s statement details the way in which Dominion, Cardassian and Breen officials inside the command complex on Cardassia Prime were beamed off the planet almost a month prior to the Dominion’s withdrawal and replaced by a team of Starfleet officers who used holography to falsify all broadcasts and orders from within the complex. This information leaves us all deeply concerned for the welfare of those Dominion, Cardassian and Breen personnel taken captive by the Federation. In particular, we must now ask ourselves what has become of the Founder and how she has been treated by the Federation war criminals now holding her captive.
.........The news of these war crimes committed by the Federation against the Cardassian people shocks and saddens us all. In the aftermath of this atrocity, our thoughts and prayers go with the people of Cardassia Prime. We will pursue the stories of these innocent victims and of the fate of our beloved Founder with vigilance.
