The capable and intelligent facilitators and administrators of the Dominion, the Vorta play a key role in the organization by managing the daily affairs of the Dominion. The Vorta have beena part of the administration of the Dominion for so long that their true race history is shrouded in mystery and doubt but they are believed to have originated on Kareel Prime, in the Gamma Quadrant. One popular legend holds that the Vorta were originally a simian race which extended kindness toward the Founders and for this act of mercy, unique among solids, the Vorta were genetically engineered by the Founders and made the brilliant creatures they are today. The Jem'hadar owe immediate allegiance to the Vorta and are bound to obey their commands. This relationship is critical to the continuation of the Jem'hadar for only the Vorta can dispense Ketracel White, a vital enzyme which the Jem'hadar lack. This system, developed by the Founders, is a brilliant method for maintaining the chain of command. Traits chracteristic of the Vorta include poor eyesight and aesthetic sense but acute vision.
